i thought my soul would rise and fly

i went and saw dr. cornell west speak last night on civil rights. he sauntered onstage, easy blues and rhymes, and left me with arms full of goosebumps and a page of notes.

'we are well adjusted to injustice, well adapted to indifference. indifference to evil is worse than evil itself.'

'don't pretend to be colorblind, but be lovestruck with each other, the way martin luther king, jr wanted. colorblindness is used to avoid the pitfalls of sexism and racism.'

'bail-outs the banking class is socialism for the rich. why are they not held accountable for how each dollar is spent, the way the lower class is with welfare?'

'charity and philanthropy are not the same things as justice.'
